Some times people use ignorance as a tool to not accept situations and conditions that are not favorable to them. Instead of accepting the uncomfortable truths, they take help of the ignorance tool and behave as if they are not even aware of those circumstances or events. Politicians use this tool regularly. If accepting global warming threat is not beneficial to us, we will completely ignore the topic as if we have absolutely no idea about what global warming is. This is the classic case of selective ignorance.
Unfortunately, our ignorance quotient is increasing day by day, resulting in more and more frustration and degraded lifestyles across the society. We are becoming insensitive towards important social/personal issues and problems. Most of the issues and problems are ignored by stating that the problem is not mine. It is somebody else’s issue and I should not waste my time and energy on resolving the same. We are basically postponing the inevitability of the issue reaching our doorstep one or the other day. Global issues of drug addiction and water conservation are some of the examples of our ignorance and careless attitude.
The real question is not “How much I know about something” but “What question can I ask about something I know?” We need to have great knowledge but the purpose of a lot of knowledge is not to have a lot of knowledge but to ask a lot of questions about the knowledge we have, to ask more and more interesting and thought provoking questions. This is how we can continuously enhance our knowledge, frame new questions based on our enhanced knowledge and find new solutions to these newly formed questions.. the cycle repeats itself.
Some of the random questions I have, based on my limited knowledge are about our intuitions, our dreams, our bodies, our mind and our ability to self-destruct.
I am fascinated by how our intuition works?
How it preempts us about the future threats and possibilities?
How our dreams are created?
Who decides the topic of the dreams?
How can we have such a complete cinematic experience without retakes, editing and special effects in our dreams?
How can our minds roam around seamlessly from one thought to another without following session termination and session initiation? If they are following these protocols, what are the timeframes for the session initiation and termination?
How the human body is so efficient on Energy to weight ratio?
How can we replicate such a complex but seamless functioning of various machine parts without compromising on energy intake and power output?
Is it possible to improve on the already optimized human bodies so that they can perform superhuman tasks like flying or becoming invisible or teleportation?
Just like machines, why can’t human beings have redundant critical functions like heart and brain?
Can we have a 100% part replacement policy for critical organs of our bodies?
Just like intelligent softwares, can human bodies have enhanced self-healing properties?
Can we develop a graphic user interface for our brain wherein we can monitor, control and shut down some of the brain functions as and when necessary?
Can we terminate resource intensive sessions of the brain with a click of a button?
Can we allocate limited amount of brain resources for certain activities & feelings like procrastination and arrogance?
Can we improve common sense and civic sense in an individual by a single click of a button?
Can we restart our complete body functions?
Can we format our brain drives and install new ones?
What will happen if we can find a modular solution of learning wherein we can choose subjects of our choice and install those modules in our brains instantly? Like for example, I want to learn Quantum Mechanics, I can straight away purchase Quantum Mechanics pack in Marathi language with all the colorful fonts and install it into my system in 2 minutes without upgrading my RAM or Hard-drive?
I understand, there will be unintended repercussions, but there is nothing wrong in asking questions? People typically are very insecure about such out of box questions. Nobody likes to be branded uninformed or uneducated or plain stupid. Large groups of people oppose any new thought processes which can question their knowledge and set thought patterns. They fight such innovative ideas tooth and nail until they are forced to accept new path breaking realities. Irrespective of such opposition, some of us are already working on these lines. Let us hope for the best.
There are so many senseless and illogical questions related to many fields and subjects which keep bothering me from time to time.
The most optimum utilization of our knowledge and our awareness about ignorance is in striving for finding solutions to our areas of ignorance by building on our current knowledge. Once we find new answers to our questions, some more questions will crop up, we’ll keep on finding new solutions and new questions and the continuous cycle of creating and solving our problems will lead us to further our amazing journey of progress and prosperity. That is exactly how human race has evolved over thousands of years.
Knowledge and Ignorance needs to be in symbiotic relationship. More the knowledge, more the awareness of ignorance. More the awareness of ignorance, more the search for solutions and knowledge. That is the way we have prospered for the last thousands of years and this is the way we can break all the technological, social, political and personal barriers for thousands of years to come.
